Lead-Safe Housing Registry

The County of Fresno's Lead-Safe Housing Registry is a listing to provide information to the rental community of housing units that have been made safe from lead-based paint hazards.  Lead-based paint is primarily found on homes and apartments built before 1978.  The older the dwelling, the more likely it is to have lead-based paint.

What Does "Lead-Safe: Mean?

It does not mean that the property or unit is lead-free.  There is a high likelihood that lead paint remains on the property.  What it does mean is that on the date shown indicated next to the address on the attached list, the lead paint was intact and not considered a hazard to children.  In addition, there were no lead dust hazards in the windows or on floors, and there were no bare soil lead hazards present.  If chipping or peeling paint, or excessive dust or paint chips are present it could mean that the lead hazards have returned.

Working with Lead Paint Safely

On-going lead safety requires the property owner to safely maintain paint and soil covering and to use lead-safe work practices when conducting maintenance activities or repairing the dwelling.  Perspective renters or buyers should check with the property owner to find out if lead-safe practices have been followed.  For more information on protecting your family from lead hazards, select one of these links below:

Lead Disclosure Law (Title X)

InHUD-Logo addition to providing on-going lead safety, the property owner is required to disclose knowledge of lead paint testing results to any prospective renter or buyer at the time of lease or purchase.  This means that the property owner must give prospective renters or buyers a copy of all reports pertaining to lead paint hazards or testing.  This report can be utilized to identify where lead paint hazards exist on the property.  For renters, contact the property owner immediately if chipping or peeling paint is present on surfaces which are listed to contain lead paint so that the lead hazards may be remediated.  For more information about the lead disclosure law visit the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's website at:
