Avian Influenza (BIRD FLU)

Avian Influenza, also known as bird flu, is widespread in wild birds worldwide and is causing outbreaks in poultry and U.S. dairy cows with recent human cases in U.S. dairy workers. Avian influenza virus can be passed from wild birds to domestic poultry such as chickens, roosters, ducks, and other animals through feces (droppings) and body fluids. People who have very close contact with infected birds or animals can get infected with avian influenza. While the current public health risk is low, the Fresno County Department of Public Health is monitoring the evolving situation closely.
