District Attorney Student Workers are an extra-help classification in which students attending or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university are utilized throughout the District Attorney's Office.  District Attorney Student Workers are teamed with either support, investigative, or prosecutorial staff to aid with various duties.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a student enrolled in an accredited college or university that is acceptable within the United States
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must meet professional standards
  • Must consent to and pass a background / criminal history check

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:

  • Modern office machines and equipment
  • Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with alphabetical and numerical filing methods
  • Accurate English usage, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and spelling
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Maintain files and records
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Understand and execute oral and written instructions
  • Learn and apply office procedures and rules
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Organizing discovery from various law enforcement agencies
  • Organizing case files
  • Assisting attorneys and staff with case preparation
  • Completing special computer projects
  • Summarizing reports
  • Transcribing
  • Coordinating witnesses for court proceedings
  • File and record destruction of records

HOURS:

Student Workers are allowed to work a maximum of 28 hours per week with an hourly compensation of $16 / hour.

Normal business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Student Workers may set their own schedules so long as the requirements are met. The schedule set by the Student Worker must be consistent week to week. If a Student Worker is working less than a full day, the blocks of time must be 8:00 am to 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm to accommodate court schedules.

The District Attorney is the principal law enforcement official in Fresno County. Accordingly, District Attorney employees and interns alike are subject to a high standard of ethics and professionalism. An intern's failure to adhere to professional standards of ethics and professionalism will result in termination from the Internship Program.
